Girls Academy - Broome
Our instructor, Al has worked with the year 7 & 8 girls within the Broome Girls' Academy at Broome Senior High School in Term 4, 2016. The Hip Hop Collaboration program she delivered was designed to identify and analyse the positive messages that can be found in modern Hip Hop music and lyrics.
The girls decided to focus on a theme of "Strong Women in Hip Hop" - they had opportunity to discuss what positive and negative characterics are and the benefits of working on developing good characterstics and virtues, such as loyalty, friendship, strength and positivity. The girls chose Beyoncé and Rihanna as the artists they wanted to focus on. After choosing songs that the girls identified positive messages in our instructor Al choreographed dances to compliment them.
Our amazing BGA girls practised and performed these dances to their friends, family and teachers at their Presentation Night. Many of these girls had never danced before and most had never performed on a stage in front of people!
We are so proud of the results and the effort the girls put in to support eachother to learn the dances and the courage and strength they had to perform. It was such a pleasure to watch these girls grow and work so hard over the 5 weeks we got to share with them!
